Our primary mission is the long-term conservation, preservation and management of natural open spaces surrounding the Superstition Wilderness Area, through education, advocacy, land acquisitions, federal and state lands protection, and other conservation actions.
The Superstition Area Land Trust must raise substantial funds to lease or buy the most sensitive open spaces of this treasure trove of our vanishing desert for future generations.
Taking action now is crucial to conserve the Superstition Foothills while we still have the chance. These lands are not just about beauty and enjoyment; they serve as critical habitat for Arizona’s native wildlife. Their protection will safeguard a crucial swath of regional desert that claims:
Despite broad support for conservation of the Superstition Foothills, it is widely recognized that such efforts will be economically challenging. Nearly all of SALT’s targeted conservation lands are held in trust by the Arizona State Land Department, and are in the expansion path of metropolitan Phoenix. This means that acquiring them will be very expensive. Without intervention, there is also a genuine risk that these areas will be overwhelmed by their own popularity and lose their essence.
A financial donation not only earns you membership in SALT, but provides crucial support for our efforts to conserve the key open spaces and natural resources of the Superstition Foothills.

Conservation means development as much as it does protection. I recognize the right and duty of this generation to develop and use the natural resources of our land but I do not recognize the right to waste them, or to rob, by wasteful use, the generations that come after us.
