Love the Superstitions? Help Shape Their Future—SALT Has Six Leadership Openings

Maybe you’re the person who gets everyone organized. Maybe you’re good at bringing people together, planning events, or finding funding for a worthwhile project. Those skills have a place in conservation, too.

The Superstition Area Land Trust (SALT) is seeking people to fill six unpaid leadership roles. Each offers a different way to support our mission: conserving the natural Sonoran Desert and open spaces surrounding the Superstition Wilderness Area.

We’re building a team that can organize projects, connect with the community, and help sustain this work for years to come. Here’s where you could fit.

Trails & Stewardship Coordinator

If you enjoy being outdoors and getting a group working toward a shared goal, this role puts those interests to use.

The Trails & Stewardship Coordinator organizes trail maintenance, habitat restoration, and land monitoring projects. Responsibilities include coordinating volunteers, planning for safety, and documenting the work accomplished. Professional conservation credentials aren’t required; organization, communication, and a willingness to learn matter.

Community Engagement Coordinator

Know how to start a conversation and keep a relationship going? SALT needs someone who can help more people find their way into our work.

This coordinator connects with schools, youth organizations, outdoor groups, businesses, and civic organizations. The goal is to turn those introductions into lasting relationships and meaningful participation, whether through membership, stewardship projects, or future leadership.

Events & Education Coordinator

A guided hike or a good speaker can give someone a whole new appreciation for the desert.

The Events & Education Coordinator helps organize those experiences, including educational outings, SALT’s Speaker Series, workshops, family activities, and volunteer appreciation events. This role suits someone who enjoys planning details, recruiting knowledgeable people, and making programs happen.

Development & Fundraising Coordinator

Conservation work needs dependable financial support. This position helps build it through relationships with members, donors, local businesses, and sponsors.

The coordinator supports membership campaigns, fundraising activities, and giving opportunities tied to SALT’s work. Experience in business, sales, community organizations, or fundraising can be useful, but specific professional credentials aren’t required. Consistent follow-through and comfort talking with supporters are central to the role.

Grants & Strategic Partnerships Coordinator

For someone who enjoys research, writing, and keeping deadlines organized, this is an opportunity to help SALT pursue resources for conservation.

Responsibilities include researching grants, coordinating applications, tracking requirements, and developing relationships with foundations, government agencies, and conservation partners. The coordinator also works with other SALT leaders to gather the project results and documentation that support strong applications.

Volunteer Board Member

SALT also needs thoughtful people to help guide the organization’s future.

Board Members participate in decisions, support long-term planning, represent SALT in the community, and help strengthen its relationships and leadership. Your professional experience, local knowledge, or perspective could help the Board make sound decisions and keep conservation at the center of its work.

Let’s Talk About Where You Fit

These are unpaid leadership commitments. The five coordinator roles each include building a small supporting committee, so developing a team is part of the opportunity.

If a position interests you but you have questions about responsibilities or time commitment, reach out before deciding. Call (480) 983-3454 or email info@azsalt.org to start a conversation.
