The Superstition Wilderness is one of Arizona’s most iconic landscapes—filled with rugged peaks, sweeping desert vistas, rich biodiversity, and deep cultural history. For many of us, it’s more than a place on the map; it’s home, inspiration, and a reminder of the beauty that still exists in the world.
At the Superstition Area Land Trust (SALT), our mission is simple: to conserve and protect the natural Sonoran Desert open spaces surrounding the Superstition Wilderness Area. This work is ongoing, critical, and only possible because of the people who stand with us.
One of the most meaningful ways you can support this effort is by becoming a SALT member.
By becoming a member, you show your commitment to safeguarding the lands designated in the Superstition Area Land Plan. These open spaces are irreplaceable—once developed, their ecological and cultural value is lost forever.
Your membership is a statement:
The Superstitions deserve protection.
Members receive up-to-date access to information about SALT’s conservation work, land acquisition progress, events, and initiatives. You’ll be among the first to know about developments that impact the Superstition region and how you can get involved.
From land-use updates to restoration efforts to community outreach, your membership keeps you engaged in shaping the future of our desert landscape.
SALT members are invited to participate in volunteer projects throughout the year. These may include:
Land stewardship and clean-up events
Trail maintenance
Habitat restoration
Educational programs
Community outreach
Whether you enjoy hands-on conservation work or prefer to help behind the scenes, volunteers play a vital role in SALT’s mission.
One of SALT’s core goals is securing conservation lands that are currently held in trust by the Arizona State Land Department. According to the Arizona State Constitution, State Trust Lands must be sold through a public auction when they become available.
This makes fundraising crucial.
Your membership fee directly supports SALT’s ability to compete in these auctions, putting land into permanent conservation instead of development. For this reason, we encourage you to consider joining at the highest membership level you can comfortably afford. Every contribution expands our ability to protect more acres of precious desert habitat.
Membership is just one way to help. You can also:
Every donation strengthens our capacity to preserve open space, support stewardship programs, and protect the wildlife and scenery that make the Superstitions extraordinary.
Join our dedicated crew and make a visible impact on the land we all love. Volunteering is a powerful way to connect with nature and the community.
SALT offers several membership levels to match your ability to give:
Protector – $35/month
Defender – $75/month
Guardian – $150/month
Steward – $300/month
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, all charitable donations are tax-deductible.
Every membership, every donation, and every volunteer hour helps keep the Superstitions wild, open, and protected for future generations.
Thank you for considering membership and for your continued support. The Superstition Wilderness is a treasure worth protecting—and with your help, SALT can ensure its beauty endures.

The Superstition Area Land Trust (SALT) works with public agencies to protect vulnerable Sonoran Desert foothills—part of Arizona’s 9 million acres of state trust land—threatened by urban sprawl and managed primarily for revenue.

Donating to the Superstition Area Land Trust (SALT) helps preserve the Sonoran Desert’s fragile foothills, wildlife, and open spaces for future generations.
